Most people are shocked to discover that girls as young as 10 are sold for sex every day in the United States. The group of men and women who are part of the Run For Courage team were equally shocked when they learned of the magnitude of this heinous crime.  In addition, many of us were broken hearted when the young daughter of a friend was abducted from our sleepy suburb of Sacramento, moved to the Bay Area and sold for sex until she was rescued almost a week later.  At that point, we knew we needed to do something, anything, to help fight the war against sex trafficking.

However, none of the team members is a professional therapist or member of law enforcement.  Therefore, we decided that the best thing we could do was raise money to support the dedicated men and women who are on the front lines of this battle everyday rescuing and restoring these precious young victims.  One thing that was clear was the amount of courage it takes to fight this battle.  It was also clear that young girls who recover from this horrible crime are some of the most courageous amongst us.

Knowing we did not have the training to work with victims, we considered where we did have training. Most of us are athletes and know what it means to Run For A Reason, so after considering several different options, we decided that we could host a run/walk to both raise awareness and money for this mission.  Thus, Run For Courage was born.

Our first two Run For Courage races were a raving success!  We have hosted over 2500 runners and raised over $140,000 between the two races to support programs that restore victims of sex trafficking.

We are excited to be in the thick of planning multiple runs! The Third Annual Run For Courage, Folsom will be held this September 29th, 2012.  Our hope is that we will be coming to a city near you! When we come to your city please join us as we run to support the brave girls as they fight and recover from this horrible crime.
